A professor who often testifies against Monsanto was given his walking papers after Monsanto filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request regarding the professor’s research activities and funding.

David Carpenter said the first thing the University at Albany handed him after the FOIA was filed was documentation giving him the opportunity to resign. In turn, Monsanto used that as ammunition with a jury to try and sway the jury in Monsanto’s favor.

In a statement to Inside Higher Ed, Carpenter said, “Monsanto is trying to have me disqualified because of this UAlbany investigation.” The publication added that “majority of his research on PCBs’ health impacts has been from studying the effects on [a local Native American] tribe. He said this work goes back to the mid-1980s.”
