Only three days left to reject the 2022 Amendments & the Minister for Health is misleading us
The response to our petition signed by Health Minister Mark Butler dismisses the concerns of 55,697 Australians with answers that are neither current or accurate.

At the time the Minister wrote the response, it was already known that the JSCT Committee (see who they are here) did not conduct any consultation whatsoever on the May 2022 Amendments which were rubber stamped in August 2023. Why would the Minister for Health lie in his response?
The members on JSCT we have recently spoken to and conferred with, were not even aware of the Article 59 IHR Amendments, let alone that they had considered and reported on them. As for “inviting submissions from stakeholders and members of the public”, the other one plays jingle bells.
JSCT’s review of the Article 59 IHRA amendments are buried in JSCT’s Report 210 headed “Timor-Leste Cooperation in the Field of Defence and the Status of Visiting Forces”. Hmmmm.
We reject that an organisation funded 84% by “donors”, the majority of which are not Member States is “member led”. We reject the assertion that the amendments will not be binding when the 307 coming are exactly that.
New Zealand, Estonia and Slovakia have already spoken up.

JSCT (Joint Standing Committee on Treaties) is 16 of our elected representatives. They rubber stamped the 2022 IHR Amendments that must be rejected before 1 December, or the shortened timeframes apply to Australia.
