Studies Find Light and Sound Therapy May Treat Alzheimer’s

New studies have revealed a correlation between cognitive decline resiliency and personalized light and sound therapy. With costs continually increasing for FDA-approved Alzheimer’s drugs, along with the drugs having undesirable side effects such as brain swelling, novel, new treatment approaches are being analyzed.

One such idea is to project light and sound therapy directly to the brains of Alzheimer’s patients through a headset, as researchers found that when light and sound are combined, they artificially stimulate gamma brain waves. These waves are generated when the brain is hard at work and correlated with enhanced cognitive function.

While the studies being conducted in mice, are still ongoing, the researchers’ hope is to find a low-cost, at-home method of stimulating cognition in a patient.
