A 60-second Moderna TV commercial bent on convincing health-conscious consumers that getting their COVID shots is the healthy thing to do has a message and slogan that the drug company hopes will catch on.
The name for Moderna’s shot is Spikevax, and Spikevax it is, as the camera pans through a series of seniors exercising various parts of their bodies, from their brains to their legs as they play board games, ride bikes and get other vaccines, such as the flu shot.
As reported by Fierce Pharma, the narrator in the commercial says, “You flu shot that body, and now you Spikevax that body. Because even though the pandemic is over, COVID-19 isn’t,” the narrator says. As the narrator discusses the flu shot, we see the table tennis player with a plaster on his arm, indicating he has been vaccinated. The screen transitions to a younger woman, again with a plaster on her arm, as the narrator says “Spikevax that body.”
Some big bucks are riding on the success of these commercials: So far Moderna is forecasting only $6 billion in sales for 2023, a significant drop from the $19 billion it raked in for 2022. The numbers are expected to drop again in 2024.
