Ian Fleming’s James Bond novels and Roald Dahl’s children books are being rewritten, to remove words that could offend sensitive readers. And then there is this:

Several of the UK’s most respected TV shows, movies, and works of literature have been included in a list of works that could potentially encourage far-right sympathies, compiled by the taxpayer-funded and government-led “Prevent” counter-terrorism program.

As The Daily Mail reports, works by some of the world’s greatest writers were included as examples of warning signs of potential extremism, including Shakespeare, Chaucer, Milton, Tennyson, Orwell, Huxley, Kipling and Edmund Burke.

It [the Prevent group] said the works of fiction were “key texts” for “white nationalists/supremacists”.

Yes, key texts. As we all know, community reading groups of white supremacists hold weekly discussions, during which they do line by line analyses of Hamlet and King Lear for clues on how to stage insurrections and blockades against incoming migrants.

Winston Smith (1984) and Lady Macbeth were members of the Ku Klux Klan.
