Google Cuts Pay for Its Home Workers — Depending on Where They Work

Certain Google employees who choose to continue to work from home rather than drive to the office may face a cut in pay, Google announced.

Previously, Google became the first Big Tech company to announce it was mandating COVID vaccines for all its employees when they return to work in October. Some exceptions will be accepted.

But, for employees who choose to continue working from home when the offices open, Google will use a special algorithm to dock their pay accordingly, depending on where they live. For those who live within five boroughs of the New York City offices would not have any pay cuts.

But those who live or move far away from their offices will have their salaries slashed up to 25%, depending on how far away they live. In other words, those who live close to the office and choose to stay home get rewarded for living in the city, but those who live in the suburbs or in rural districts will be punished.

Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin have all warned employees who move away from their big-city offices that they will face pay cuts, too, the New York Post reported.
