Federal Judge: Religious Vaccine Exemptions Can’t Be Denied

A federal judge in Mississippi has ruled that citizens cannot be denied the right to exemptions from vaccines based on religious grounds.

The ruling applies to vaccine mandates for schoolchildren who otherwise would be banned from enrolling without the shots. Parents with religious objections had sued the state health officer and Mississippi attorney general, saying that forcing them to vaccinate their children was a violation of their First Amendment rights.

The state has until July 15, 2023, to comply with a policy allowing the objections.
