Cyprus Cats to Get COVID-19 Treatments

Tens of thousands of cats on the Island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean Sea — possibly as many as 300,000 — have died from a feline type of coronavirus called feline infectious peritonitis (FIP).

While it’s not transmittable to humans, FIP can evolve and mutate within the cat community itself, and spread new infections to new populations, especially among strays and rescues.

Other vectors by which FIP infections can spread and mutate include litterboxes, scoops, brushes and human hands and feet. With human COVID winding down, it seemed reasonable to sanction the use of leftover human COVID-19 treatments to treat the cats.
