Cancer Mystery as Cases Rise Among Younger People Around the World

Cancer cases are rising exponentially among people aged 50 and younger, particularly with bowel cancer. Tumor cases of all types had been seeing a steady incline for the past 30 years in the younger population, but “the figures for bowel cancer are the most alarming,” New Scientist reported.

Health officials are even more concerned because this age group doesn’t generally routinely screen for cancer; usually colonoscopies aren’t recommended until later in life.

Another cause for concern is that the bowel, breast, and prostate cancers that are appearing are more aggressive than normal. Scientists are working hard to figure out what’s going on; they suspect that it has something to do with dietary factors, since eight of the 14 reported cancers have to do with the digestive system.
