Recommendations for Booster COVID Shots Will Be Set for 8 Months

In what one major news source is calling a “major blow to vaccine efforts,” two senior FDA officials have suddenly turned in their resignations. Thirty-two year FDA veteran Marion Gruber is leaving her position as director of FDA’s Office of Vaccines Research & Review (OVVR) in October; 10-year employee Phil Krause resigned from his job as deputy director of OVVR. His final work day is in November.

“The news, first reported by BioCentury, is a massive blow to confidence in the agency’s ability to regulate vaccines,” Endpoints News said. It’s a “huge global loss,” former BARDA director Rick Bright is reported to have commented.

According to Endpoints, a former senior FDA leader said “they’re departing because they’re frustrated that CDC and their ACIP committee are involved in decisions that they think should be up to the FDA … they’re also “upset with CBER director Peter Marks for not insisting that those decisions should be kept inside FDA. What finally did it for them was the White House getting ahead of FDA on booster shots.”
