Australians take this opportunity to say NO

“Australia remains fully committed to concluding the WHO pandemic agreement… Australia stands ready to deliver on this ambition. We cannot afford to fail.”

The Hon. Mark Butler – Minister for HealthThe 77th World Health Assembly in Geneva, May 2024

Petition

Recently, our Minister for Health, The Hon. Mark Butler, attended the World Health Assembly in Geneva, representing Australia. During this crucial event, two significant votes were held:

  • Amendments to the 2005 International Health Regulations
  • A new Pandemic Treaty or Agreement

At this assembly, Mr. Butler made the above (and very bold) declarations, suggesting unanimous Australian support for these international commitments.

But does he truly speak for
all Australians?

In the 2022 election, the Labor Party took government with the smallest primary vote since 1903, winning just 77 seats in the House of Representatives with 32.58% of the vote. This narrow victory underscores that a significant portion of Australians do not feel represented by the current government.

Mr. Butler’s declarations on the international stage were made without the consent or
consultation of the Australian people.

It is outrageous for Mr. Butler to presume he speaks for the entire nation, committing us to international agreements without seeking our input. His promise to “conclude the WHO pandemic Treaty” is not just premature, but a betrayal of the democratic process.

It’s time to say NO to Mr. Butler.

We must remind him that he serves the people of Australia. The decisions regarding WHO treaties should reflect our collective
voice and if they don’t, become a critical election issue.
